Movie: Wreck it Ralph

Have you ever felt that you just don’t belong? That no one appreciates you or likes you. Have you ever wanted to have another life or live somewhere else or run away?

The movie Wreck it Ralph is about Ralph, a character from a video game, who feels the same way. He’s tired of having to be the villain of his game and of always losing. He dreams of someday getting a medal just like the hero of his game. One day, he decides he’s had enough, and runs away to another game. In a war game, he finally gets the medal he wanted, but when he escapes, he takes with him one of the bugs from the war game. He next finds himself in a sugar land race car game where he ends up making a friend after he loses his precious medal. Through his new friend, and his old friend coming to find him, he learns that he’s special and wanted. Without him, his game was considered broken because there was no goal in the game without a villain. He learns that he was placed exactly where he was for a reason, he had a purpose.

We can apply this movie to our own life and know that we are exactly where we are supposed to be and that there is a plan for each and every one of us.

Movie: Letters to God

I found this movie in Blockbuster down here in Mexico. I was thinking to myself “This movie is probably not very ‘Christian’ if I can find it here.” I don’t know about the States, but here, not all movies make it to Blockbuster. I decided that the movie sounded good so I rented it to watch, not expecting much.
Letters to God is about a little boy, Tyler. He lost his father a couple years back and their family was still recovering when he was diagnosed with cancer. His favorite way to pass the time is writing letters. He writes his letters to God, talking about his day and his dreams and his death, which he talks about openly. Tyler’s strong faith is so contagious that he begins to influence the mailman who is reading his letters. He impacts the kids at his school and also his friend Samantha. Slowly but surely, he reaches out to everyone he can to tell them of God’s love for them. His brother and mother begin losing faith when Tyler’s illness only gets worse, but Tyler’s faith keeps them strong. Till the end, he continues to write letters to God, and his prayers were answered.
I don’t know about you, but this movie was very openly Christian, but yet I found it in a secular store. I’ve heard many people compliment it and I now add my compliments to theirs. This is a must-watch movie!

Book: House of Dark Shadows

House of Dark Shadows by Robert Liparulo

When I first picked up this book at a Christian bookstore, I was somewhat thrown off by its cover. It appeared to be some sort of horror story involving ghosts and vampires. But when I read the back, it seemed alright, so I bought it. It was nothing what I expected. This story is about the King family who moves to a new town and buy a new house. The house seems a little creepy but more in a mysterious kind of way than in a scary way. Sounds are bounced around and they find a portal in a closet. This is more of a science fiction book than a horror book. It involves time travel and portals. It is very well written and obviously directed towards boys ages 12 and up. It has some very hilarious parts and made me laugh out loud continually. Some parts of the book are written in a mysterious fashion, intended to scare the reader. But there is no gore or ghosts or anything of that sort in the book. It ends quite abruptly leaving many things unresolved, but that is the purpose for the next three books in the series. I have not yet read the sequels, but I would expect them to be as good as the first one. This is not a book for the weak-hearted, but is perfect for teens looking for a good, clean, thrilling book. I definitely recommend it! Pick up House of Dark Shadows now!

Movie: Saving Sarah Cain

Sarah Cain, a woman in her thirties, lives alone in the big city. She’s a journalist and writing is her life. She writes a column for a newspaper but is on the verge of being fired. One day, while having dinner with her almost-fiancĂ© Bryan Ford, she receives a call from her sister’s daughter, Lyddie. Sarah and her sister Ivy have been out of contact for many years, ever since Ivy married an Amish and joined the Amish community. Lyddie had called Sarah to inform her that Ivy had died two days ago because of some sort of heart problem, leaving five children behind. Sarah attends her sister’s funeral and afterwards is distressed to discover that she is now considered the children’s legal guardian. What could she do with five ‘Plain’ children? Discussing what should be done, Lyddie, the oldest who is sixteen, only wants Sarah to care for them until she turns eighteen and can legally become their guardian. Sarah gets an idea. She could write about the children in her column! She then makes a rash decision: she would take the children with her to live in the big city.
Lyddie, Caleb, Ana Mae, Josiah, and Hannah all have a very difficult time transferring from their very sheltered life to the city they were thrust into.  It is very hard for them to fit in at school and little by little they begin losing their Plain ways. Ana Mae decides she would like to wear pants, and Caleb joins the wrestling team without telling Lyddie. When the find out that their aunt has been writing about their personal life, they are crushed. They see that the city has caused them to lie, cheat, and lose their ways. When it can’t possibly get worse, little Josiah runs away, pledging to find his mother. When Sarah finally finds him, she repents for having thought about herself more than the children and decides to take them back to where they belong. The children convince her to stay in the Amish community and care for them.
I recommend Saving Sarah Cain for all ages! Watch it now!

I love reading and watching movies and I decided I wanted to share my favorites with you guys. PLEASE ask any questions you have concerning the movie's content and I will answer. Many of these reviews are short because I used them for a newspaper that had a word count limit. But please, enjoy and ask question!
